CANINE INFLUENZA
We continue to follow the news on Canine Influenza and its spread. We have not seen it locally yet, closest reports are from Virginia, but it is an extremely fast spreading, airborne virus, which causes severe bordatella type symptoms, and even death in up to 8% of cases. Much like the human swine flu from a few years ago, the carrier may be symptom free! General symptoms are lethargy, low or high fever, cough (up to 3-4 weeks), nasal discharge, increased respiratory rate, and other pneumonia-like signs. The good news is that there is a vaccine. Bad news is that few vets carry it. When we feel it has become a risk for our boarding dogs, we will start requiring it. The initial dose is given over 2-4 weeks, then once annually. We encourage you to discuss canine influenza virus with your vet, especially if you have greyhounds, which were the first breed to be infected. It apparently crossed over from horses!
 
MDA FUNDRAISER
Tom will once again be "Going to Jail" for the Annual MDA Lockup Fundraiser in honor of his Notre Dame teammate, Pete Duranko, who recently lost his 11 year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Pete will be missed! Jail date is August 18th and my bail this year is $3500.00!
